New Appointments to the German Ethics Council Announced

On October 21, 2024, the President of the German Bundestag, Bärbel Bas, officially appointed members to the German Ethics Council (Deutscher Ethikrat) for the new term, effective from October 10, 2024. This cohort includes both newly appointed and reappointed members nominated by the Bundestag and the federal government.
Notably, Professor Aldo Faisal, Chair of Digital Health and Data Science at the University of Bayreuth and Professor of AI & Neuroscience at Imperial College London, has been appointed to the Council.
The Council now comprises 25 members from diverse disciplines, including science, medicine, law, philosophy, and theology. Their collective expertise will guide ethical deliberations on pressing issues such as digital health, neurotechnology, and artificial intelligence.
Professor Faisal’s appointment brings an important digital health perspective to the Council, reinforcing the national relevance of research taking place at the University of Bayreuth.
